Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect in the first session?

Dr. Zalan offers a free 10 minute consultation call to ensure that she can provide services that are a good fit with your presenting issues and therapy goals, and to set up the first appointment. The initial session is an opportunity to discuss the difficulties for which you are seeking help, for Dr. Zalan to determine a diagnosis (if necessary), and for you and Dr. Zalan to develop a personalized treatment plan to help you reach your desired outcomes.

Do you offer virtual or in-person appointments?
How long are appointments?

Currently, Dr. Zalan provides virtual services via a secure online portal. Sessions are held over video conferencing.

Appointments are typically booked in hour-long time slots, with 50 minutes dedicated to client-clinician interaction and 10 minutes for preparation, documentation, and other administrative considerations.

How do I get referred to your clinic?

You do not need a referral from a medical doctor to receive services from Dr. Zalan. You can contact her directly at drleahzalan@protonmail.com and she will be happy to connect!

What are your fees, and how can I pay?

Individual 50-minute appointments are billed in line with suggested rate ranges by the Ontario Psychological Association. Payment is due on the day of the appointment and can be made via credit card on your secure online profile or by e-transfer to drleahzalan@protonmail.com.

Are your services covered by OHIP?

Psychological services are not covered by OHIP. However, some or all of your session fees may be covered if you have private health insurance or extended benefits through your employer. It is highly recommended you reach out to your insurance provider to determine the extent of your coverage. Following sessions, you will be billed directly and with coverage, you can submit your receipts to your insurance company for reimbursement.

What is your cancellation policy?
What if I have an emergency outside of a therapy session?

48 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Please note that failing to provide notice may result in your appointment being charged in full.

Dr. Zalan does not provide emergency crisis services. In case of emergency, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
